Ahhh! This week
was so fast. I barely even remember it, it’s all a blur of constant work. I
started off the week as usual, I had made my weekly schedule using colorful
sticky notes and everything looked pretty normal. Except in my Chinese class we
have moved on from pinyin and are focusing on characters. Oh my goodness it’s
like I am in an art class. The characters require a lot of thinking and
memorization on my part, I first have to translate the drawing into pinyin and
then English. This process usually takes me a few minutes especially if I
cannot remember the pinyin. It is so interesting to me the origins and
significance of each character and how certain parts of a single character can
have different meanings. Their form of communication is so different than ours.
Along with this shift in my Chinese class we had our first paper due in World
Politics. I did enjoy the topic, which was Space Policy 4, however, I found it
hard to write about it. I usually have trouble finding words to describe my
thoughts, I wish someone would invent something that basically helps take the thoughts
of your head and formulate them into actual, understandable ideas. Since that
has not happened yet it took me awhile to write my essay. Tuesday and Wednesday
I babysat as usual and was able to walk around in the rain which was fun, rain
is still cool to me because where I live it does not rain a lot so I am still
enamored with it. Wednesday was also the Global Scholar town hall which was
informative. It was nice to realize that scheduling issues were complicated and
that Professor Hardig was aware of the challenges presented to us because of AUx.
I am also very excited to plan my schedule next semester, but stressed.
Thursday my mom flew into DC, I had some interesting Indian food and then we
went to Georgetown which was as cute and wholesome as usual. Dumplings and
Beyond is where we had dinner with my roommate and her mother, the food really
hit the spot- for some reason I had been craving Chinese food. Friday I only
had my Chinese class because my English professor cancelled class in order to
hold individual conference meetings regarding our next paper. I spent the rest
of the day with my mom and my Aunt Chele who was also in town. We went to
dinner, but I had to return to school before our food had arrived in order to
meet with my simulation group. The next morning, I was treated to a delicious
breakfast of burrata avocado toast at Silvers by my mother and Aunt Chele we
then spent the rest of the day together exploring DC. Dinner was eaten at The
Hamilton which is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. It is safe to say that
I will be eating leftovers this week because of all the amazing food I had this
weekend.
On a side note, as my mom and I were about to say bye the lyft driver had Adele playing which
made my mom cry even more hahaha. Anyways another great week at American!
